Bullfrog Power, Canada’s 100 per cent green energy provider, announces new leadership to accelerate adoption of renewable energy nationwide
Toronto—Bullfrog Power announced today the appointment of Peter Melanson as Chief Executive Officer, effective August 1, 2013. Melanson brings more than 30 years’ experience in sales, marketing and operations to the position and will be responsible for leading the company’s efforts to further advance renewable energy in Canada. Melanson’s background includes an extensive history of community service as well as a proven track record in introducing innovative environmental solutions to the Canadian public.
As CEO of Bullfrog Power, Peter continues his commitment to realizing the potential of innovative environmental solutions. From 2000 to 2003, as the first CEO of epost, a joint venture of CPC, Telus and BMO, Peter led the successful market introduction of earth-friendly paperless bill and statement delivery, earning the company a CATA award for private sector innovation. With more than seven million subscribers, epost—the world’s first “electronic post office”—is now the Canadian market leader in bill consolidation. More recently, as SVP Sales for Canada Post Corporation (CPC), Peter was responsible for the entire CPC national sales force, driving revenues of more than $4 billion annually. Earlier in his career, Peter held senior executive positions with SHL Systemhouse and Digital Equipment Corporation, managing global postal services.
Melanson is also Past President of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards in Canada, with 13 years of service with the organization in various capacities. His community service was recognized by HRH Prince Edward in 2012 with a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for volunteerism. Peter graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Mount Allison University in 1981.
Former CEO Tom Heintzman will continue to play an important role as Co-Founder and Director on Bullfrog Power’s Board.
“I want to express my sincere appreciation to Tom Heintzman for his leadership to date, which has provided a solid foundation for growth,” said Melanson.”We now have a tremendous opportunity to continue the critical work of growing renewable energy in Canada. Working with the organization and growing community of bullfrogpowered homes and businesses, I look forward to helping reshape our energy landscape for the benefit of all Canadians and future generations. I feel privileged to carry on this important mission.”
