Toronto—Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, and the Sudbury Unlimited eNergy (SUN) Co-operative, a renewable energy co-operative, are partnering to bring more green energy to Northern Ontario. Through its Bullfrog Builds Renewable Accelerator Program, Bullfrog Power is providing financing for the development of a solar project to convert industrial land in Sudbury into an installation that will generate clean, pollution-free solar power.
“Bullfrog Builds is all about moving new green energy projects forward,” said Ron Seftel, Senior Vice President, Operations, Bullfrog Power. “SUN Co-operative’s Vale project is Bullfrog Builds’ first in Northern Ontario and we’re excited to be part of a project that not only changes how the land will be used, but also provides an example of what is possible for local, clean power co-ops across Canada.”
SUN Co-operative is negotiating a deal to lease land from Vale Ltd. for the project. Thanks to the support from Bullfrog Power, SUN Co-operative can now move forward with the next phase in the project’s development. The solar installation will generate 500 kilowatts of clean, pollution-free energy, enough to power 30 homes.
“Bullfrog Power’s support is essential to the Vale project’s development because it demonstrates to Sudburians that the future of energy in Canada is happening right here and it is something we can all be a part of,” said Arik Theijsmeijer, President, SUN Co-operative. “Our goal as a co-op is to involve the community as much as possible, to both join the co-op to have their say, and to invest and benefit from the solar projects we build.”
