Ottawa-based Thyme and Again adds green energy with Bullfrog Power® to its sustainable catering practices
Ottawa—Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, and Thyme and Again, Ottawa’s local catering and food shop, are proud to announce that Thyme and Again is now bullfrogpowered with 100 per cent green natural gas. The partnership was officially launched in September at the 2013 Tastes of Wellington West event, which was attended by City of Ottawa Mayor James Watson, Yasir Naqvi, MPP for Ottawa-Centre, and city councillor Katherine Hobbs.
“Thyme & Again Catering is continually striving to reduce the impact of our carbon footprint,” said Sheila Whyte, Owner, Thyme and Again. “Choosing Bullfrog Power’s green natural gas is a natural extension of our longstanding commitment to sustainability and helps us to address the environmental impact of our natural gas use.”
Sourced from a unique, ground-breaking methane-capture project situated on one of Canada’s thousands of landfill sites, Bullfrog’s green natural gas is a climate-friendly alternative to conventional, polluting natural gas. Through this innovative technology, biogas is captured, cleaned up, and put onto the national natural gas pipeline, displacing fossil-fuel based gas and reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
Choosing 100 per cent green natural gas with Bullfrog Power is the latest initiative to be implemented in Thyme and Again’s comprehensive sustainability strategy. Programs already underway include:
- sourcing and promoting local foods, and striving to carry local and organic foods where possible;
- composting or recycling almost all kitchen waste, having twice weekly compost pick-up and recycling pick up;
- banning bottled water in the Take Home Food shop, for catering and off site staff, and replacing them with “creative” water stations;
- using compostable, chlorine-free coffee cups made with paper from sustainably harvested trees; the cups’ inner lining is made from 100 per cent corn instead of petroleum; and
- using 100 per cent bio-degradable single-use cutlery, plates and plastic carry-out bags.
“By choosing green natural gas with Bullfrog Power, Thyme and Again is eliminating its natural gas-related environmental impact,” said Anthony Santilli, Vice President, Commercial Sales and Marketing, Bullfrog Power. “Thyme and Again’s green business practices set a positive example for both Ottawa’s catering industry and its customers about the ability we all have to make sustainable choices.”
