Toronto—Today, Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, and RBC are announcing that RBC is bullfrogpowering each of the 10 games across Ontario and Quebec that make up the RBC Road to the World Juniors pre-tournament exhibition games.
“Climate change is one of RBC’s three priority environmental issues and today’s announcement demonstrates our commitment to taking action,” says Sandra Odendahl, Director, Corporate Sustainability, RBC. “ We are pleased to support the development of the renewable energy sector in Canada. We do this by purchasing renewable energy to address the greenhouse gas emissions from our operations and major sponsored events, and by providing financing and advice for the renewable energy and clean technology sectors.”
By choosing 100 per cent clean, pollution-free electricity for the RBC Road to the World Juniors, RBC is reducing the events’ environmental impact, supporting new renewable energy project development, and helping create a cleaner, healthier world.
Through the agreement, Bullfrog Power’s generators put 100 per cent green electricity onto the grid to match the amount of electricity that is estimated to be used at each of the RBC Road to the World Juniors pre-tournament exhibition games. The RBC Road to the World Juniors tour includes eight cities across Ontario and Quebec that will play host to international teams, featuring 10 games from December 19 to 23, before the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship begins on December 26 in Toronto and Montreal.
“RBC bullfrogpowering the RBC Road to the World Juniors is the latest landmark in RBC’s evolving sustainable events strategy, which includes choosing green power for events,” says Shaun Lewis, Vice President, Sales, Bullfrog Power. “By reducing the environmental impact of its events, RBC is demonstrating to attendees that making greener choices is practical and essential to taking action on climate change.”
In 2005, RBC became the first bank to support clean energy through a renewable energy agreement with Bullfrog Power. Since then, RBC has continued to expand its commitment to renewable energy and now bullfrogpowers its entire Canadian network of ATMs and in-branch digital displays with 100 per cent green electricity. Earlier this year, RBC and Golf Canada bullfrogpowered the 2014 RBC Canadian Open, held in Île-Bizard, Quebec, with 100 per cent green natural gas. RBC is a Vanguard level supporter of green energy on the bullfrogpowered Green Index, and is one of the ten leading supporters of renewable energy in Canada with Bullfrog Power.
