Calgary—Today, Bullfrog Power®, Canada’s leading green energy provider, and Peavey Mart, a Western Canada retailer, are announcing an innovative environmental partnership. Peavey Mart is committing to clean, pollution-free electricity by bullfrogpowering its home office and distribution centre, Southern Alberta locations, new Kamloops store in British Columbia, and its entire electric vehicle network.

Through the agreement, Bullfrog’s generators put 100 per cent clean, pollution-free electricity onto the grid to match the amount of conventional power that Peavey Mart’s bullfrogpowered facilities use. Across Canada, Bullfrog Power’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.

“By choosing renewable electricity with Bullfrog Power, Peavey Mart is reducing its environmental impact, taking action on climate change and supporting the development of new, renewable energy projects,” said Ron Seftel, CEO, Bullfrog Power. “Bullfrog Power was also able to connect Peavey Mart with the Vulcan Solar Park, Canada’s first community-owned solar park.”

Located in Vulcan, Alberta, the Vulcan Solar Park is an integrated community green space and renewable energy facility that will generate 23.5 kW of renewable electricity for the community. Similar solar parks are more common in Europe where they provide an aesthetically appealing way for the public to experience the benefits of renewable energy in their community. The design and development of the Vulcan Solar Park involved local students and the site will include learning modules on solar power to continue to educate after its completion.

“The Town of Vulcan is building the Vulcan Solar Park – the first of its kind in Canada – around the concepts of energy efficiency, aesthetics, and energy production,” said Tom Grant, Mayor, Town of Vulcan. “Thanks to the support of Bullfrog Power and our partners, this project will be both generating renewable electricity and helping to educate the public on the importance of moving toward a clean energy future.”

The solar installation was completed in late September 2015 and a community celebration for the Vulcan Solar Park as a whole is planned for Spring 2016.

“In addition to reducing the environmental impact of our business with renewable energy, Peavey Mart wanted to take further action to support community-based green power,” said Doug Anderson, President, Peavey Mart. “By choosing green energy with Bullfrog Power, we are also supporting the Vulcan Solar Park project and its goal of educating our community on the benefits of renewable energy.”

Peavey Mart, which has been serving Western Canada for over 39 years, has a long tradition of supporting sustainability initiatives in the communities in which it operates, including:

  • Installing EV charging stations across all Peavey Mart stores as well as its home office in Red Deer, Alberta;
  • Sourcing uniforms that are Canadian-made from recycled pop bottles and computer parts;
  • Providing local sustainability products, including bird seed from local products and beekeeping supplies, among others;
  • Installing a motion detected energy efficiency lighting system in the company’s distribution centre; and
  • Using reclaimed local wood sources for the company’s home office remodel.
