The hotel’s Pier 73 Restaurant is also choosing Bullfrog’s renewable natural gas offering

Vancouver, BC, April 19, 2017—Today, Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, and Pacific Gateway Hotel at Vancouver Airport are announcing a new environmental initiative to provide green electricity for all of the hotel’s meeting spaces and renewable natural gas for Pier 73 Restaurant. As a result of the partnership, Pacific Gateway Hotel becomes the largest hotel purchaser of green energy in British Columbia with Bullfrog Power.

“People have a choice of where to take their business, and we believe that our sustainability initiatives work in our favour when it comes to helping them make that choice,” said Eda Koot, General Manager at Pacific Gateway Hotel. “Our partnership with Bullfrog Power is one example of how we are integrating sustainability across our entire business.”

Through the agreement, Bullfrog Power is ensuring that its generators put 240 MWh of green power onto the grid to match the amount of conventional electricity used by the hotel’s meeting spaces. Across Canada, Bullfrog’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.

In addition, Bullfrog Power’s producers inject 1,800 gigajoules of green natural gas into the national pipeline to match the amount of conventional natural gas used by Pier 73 Restaurant. Sourced from a unique, ground-breaking methane-capture project situated on one of Canada’s landfills, Bullfrog’s green natural gas is a climate-friendly alternative to conventional, polluting natural gas. Through innovative technology, biogas is captured, cleaned up, and injected into the national natural gas pipeline, displacing fossil fuel-based gas and reducing CO₂ emissions into the atmosphere.

• Receiving a silver grading from Green Tourism, a not-for-profit eco-tourism organization; and
• Participating in the City of Richmond’s Carbon Marketplace with a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of over 100 tonnes.
