Ottawa, ON—Today is the grand opening of the Ottawa River Runners Whitewater Club Inc. (ORR) solar-powered clubhouse in Ottawa, Ontario. The clubhouse includes a rooftop solar installation that was funded in part by Bullfrog Power as part of its community renewable projects program. Local dignitaries, including the Honourable Catherine McKenna MP, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and Westboro Olympian Michael Tayler, are attending the launch event.

The grand opening of the clubhouse coincides with the Canadian Whitewater National Slalom Championships to be held August 5 and 6 at the Pumphouse, located adjacent to LeBreton Flats in Ottawa. For more information on the Championships, see www.whitewaterontario.ca.

“The Canadian Whitewater National Slalom Championships is a signature event for our sport, which is why we wanted to ensure that the grand opening of our clubhouse was also introducing a legacy project,” said Doug Corkery, President of the Ottawa River Runners. “For decades, the Ottawa River Runners clubhouse will be generating clean, pollution-free electricity thanks to Bullfrog Power’s contribution.”

“Thanks to the individuals and organizations across Canada choosing renewable energy with Bullfrog Power, we’re able to support community-based green power projects like this one,” said Ron Seftel, CEO, Bullfrog Power. “The Ottawa River Runners clubhouse is a great location for solar because it demonstrates the connection between our enjoyment of the environment and our responsibility to protect it.”

The 1.04 kW rooftop solar installation is located on the ORR’s off-grid dockside clubhouse. Coupled with a battery back-up, the project will allow the clubhouse to receive all of its electricity from the solar panels, eliminating the need for a diesel generator. This project is the latest in Bullfrog Power’s community renewable projects program, which has contributed to green power projects from solar on BC’s Gulf Islands Secondary School to a solar project with the Métis community in the Northern Village of Green Lake Saskatchewan.
