Hotel Blackfoot reduces its carbon footprint with renewable energy commitment

Thursday January 28, 2016

Calgary, Alberta—Today, Bullfrog Power®, Canada’s leading green energy provider, and Hotel Blackfoot, a contemporary hotel minutes from downtown Calgary, are announcing a new environmental partnership. Bullfrog will ensure green electricity is injected onto the grid to match the amount of conventional power Hotel Blackfoot’s executive floors and meeting rooms use annually (730 MWh)—the bullfrogpowering of executive floors is a first for hotels in Alberta. This commitment aligns with findings from a recent study measuring the likelihood that Canadians (84 per cent) will make more environmentally-responsible choices in 2016; 75 per cent in Alberta.

“The hotel industry has long been a leader in the adoption of sustainable solutions,” said Anthony Santilli, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Bullfrog Power. “By choosing Bullfrog Power’s green energy, Hotel Blackfoot is reducing its environmental impact, supporting the development of new renewable energy projects and taking action on climate change.”

Across Canada, Bullfrog Power’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities. The organization also uses its customers’ support to help develop community-based green energy projects in Canada—such as solar panels on schools and community centres.

“Hotel Blackfoot prides itself on being a contemporary hotel that understands the priorities of a new generation of guests who are looking for greener travel options,” said Scott Warner, General Manager, Hotel Blackfoot. “Through our partnership with Bullfrog Power, Hotel Blackfoot is helping to ensure that our natural heritage will always be here for us to enjoy.”

In addition to choosing renewable electricity with Bullfrog Power, Hotel Blackfoot, which achieved a 4 Green Key rating with the Green Key Eco-Rating Program, has implemented the following initiatives to provide its guests with a more sustainable experience:

  • Two EV (electric vehicle) charging stations on site
  • Eco-friendly room service options, including towel reuse and sheet change programs as well as larger shampoo and shower gel bottles, replacing individual-use formats
