Ottawa, ON—Today, Simons, the renowned family-owned fashion retailer, is opening its newest location in Ottawa’s Rideau Centre. The grand opening also marks Simons choosing to bullfrogpower its second Ontario location, strengthening its green energy commitment with Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider.

“We believe in investing in Canadian solutions—that’s why we chose Bullfrog Power’s green energy to help us reduce the environmental impact of our new stores,” said CEO Peter Simons. “Simons understands that the actions it takes today can impact future generations, which is why, when we think of our business, it’s not in terms of the next quarter, but the next quarter-century. Our partnership with Bullfrog Power shows the impact that family-owned businesses can have in our communities, by supporting and encouraging the values that, as Canadians, we all aspire to.”

Through the agreement, Bullfrog Power’s generators put 100 per cent clean, pollution-free electricity onto the grid to match the amount of conventional power that the bullfrogpowered Simons locations use. Across Canada, Bullfrog Power’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.

“As Simons continues to expand across Canada, we’re proud to be providing their newest locations with Canada’s highest quality green electricity product,” said Ron Seftel, CEO, Bullfrog Power. “By bullfrogpowering its Ontario locations, Simons is reducing the electricity-related environmental impact of these locations and supporting the development of new renewable energy projects across the country.”

The decision to bullfrogpower its Rideau Centre location is the latest sustainability initiative for the company. The Simons sustainability journey began on March 9, 1990, when the company adopted a beluga whale named Twik to support the St. Lawrence National Institute of Ecotoxicology in its research work and preservation of marine species. More recently, the organization has implemented comprehensive recycling, recovery and sustainable development efforts. Its Créer Vert label uses popular eco-friendly materials, including organic cotton, hemp and lyocell fibre to produce garments that are less harmful to ecosystems. And in April of this year, Simons opened its first bullfrogpowered location in Mississauga’s Square One shopping centre.
