Bullfrog Power and Pender Solar Initiative launch a new solar project on BC’s Pender School

Thursday November 3, 2016

Vancouver, BCBullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, and Pender Solar Initiative are announcing the launch of a new solar project on British Columbia’s Pender School. The project is part of Pender Solar Initiative’s 2020 campaign to install solar PV systems on the roof of every suitable public building on Pender, BC, by 2020.

“We are thrilled by the success of the Pender School solar roof project and hope other schools across Canada will follow in our tracks,” said David Boyd of Pender Solar Initiative.

The project, a 105-panel, 28.4 kW solar array is the largest solar electricity project on British Columbia’s Pender Island. The panels on the roof of the school were sponsored by generous Pender residents, Bullfrog Power, the Capital Regional District, the Parents Advisory Committee, and the Victoria Foundation, with great support from School District 64.

The Pender School solar project will generate approximately 25,000 kilowatt-hours per year. The revenue from that power production will be used to purchase science equipment for the school and to fund scholarships for Pender students studying renewable energy and climate change, or training to be electricians capable of installing solar panels.

“The Pender School solar project is a great example of how communities can play an active role in helping us make the transition to renewable forms of energy,” said Ron Seftel, CEO, Bullfrog Power. “Through the bullfrogpowered community—the individuals and businesses that make the choice to support green energy with Bullfrog Power—we’re able to provide funding to community projects that are having a lasting impact.”

Bullfrog Power, through its community renewable projects program, has supported more than 70 green energy projects across Canada. Additional Bullfrog Power community projects in British Columbia include BC’s first co-operatively owned community solar project and a solar school project with the Kitasoo/Xai’Xais First Nation.
