Bullfrog Power and LIFE Co-operative announce partnership to advance solar power in Southern Ontario

Toronto—Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, and the Local Initiative for Future Energy (LIFE) Co-op, a renewable energy co-operative, are partnering to bring new green energy to Ontario. Through its Bullfrog Builds Renewable Accelerator Program, Bullfrog Power will provide financing for the development of LIFE Co-op projects in Ontario that will generate clean, pollution-free solar power.

The partnership will be announced at LIFE’s upcoming Annual General Meeting. The meeting is open to the public and will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Erb Street Mennonite Church, 131 Erb St. West, Waterloo, Ontario.

“Bullfrog Builds was specifically created with opportunities like LIFE Co-op’s in mind,” said Ron Seftel, Senior Vice President, Operations, Bullfrog Power. “By providing financing to help get these green energy projects off the ground, we are showing that clean, pollution-free power can and should involve the communities that will benefit most from its development.”

LIFE is currently focused on developing 18 solar PV projects, built on private farms and businesses, which have now received contract offers under Ontario’s Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program. Located in Waterloo Region, and in Bruce, Huron, Dufferin and Wellington counties, the 18 projects represent over 3,000 kW of capacity, with the Co-op’s ownership equal to almost 1,000 kW. LIFE is also working on developing a number of new project applications under the FIT.

“Our partnership with Bullfrog Power is vital to helping us to develop the solar projects that we already have contracts for,” said Shane Mulligan, General Manager, LIFE Co-op. “Bullfrog Builds comes at a perfect time for LIFE Co-op as we look forward to continuing to enable community participation in Ontario’s renewable energy infrastructure.”
