Profile – BMO

“Companies like ours have a responsibility to take a leadership role in the fight against climate change—to go where our customers are going. This means that we must adopt and integrate environmental best practices into everything we do, including sourcing renewable energy through Bullfrog Power.”

Jim Johnston
Director, Environmental Sustainability
BMO Financial Group

In September 2007, BMO Financial Group signed on for 5,000 megawatt hours of clean, emissions-free energy from Bullfrog Power, enough for 53 BMO branches in Ontario and Alberta. BMO has since increased its commitment to 22,775 MWh—enough to bullfrogpower up to 96 branches in Ontario, Alberta and B.C. and all facilities in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and P.E.I.

BMO’s green power commitment aligns with specific objectives set out in its ECO5 strategy, focusing on those operational activities that have the potential to significantly impact the environment. Through the mandate of BMO’s Environmental Sustainability Office and the ECO5 Strategy, BMO is continually assessing its emissions output and implementing new methods of reducing its impact on the environment. These methods include promoting public transit use for BMO employees, increasing use of paper from certified sustainable forest-management origins, and replacing service vehicles with more energy-efficient models. BMO is also introducing new branches that are built to LEED building standards.
