There’s nothing better than a summer BBQ—it’s the perfect way to bring family and friends together to enjoy good food and drinks while spending time outdoors. Check out our tips below to make your next BBQ a greener one:

  1. Turn your air conditioning down or off while you’re outdoors. You’ll conserve energy and be able to enjoy the sounds of nature rather than the hum of your air conditioner.
  2. Opt for sustainably-sourced meats. Or, try swapping out half your beef burgers for veggie burgers. Studies have shown that meat production is more emissions-intensive than plant agriculture.1
  3. Use locally-grown vegetables for toppings and sides.
  4. Opt for reusable or compostable plates, cutlery and glasses.
  5. Using a gas BBQ? Choose Bullfrog Power’s green natural gas to reduce the impact on the environment.
  6. Eat before the sun goes down to use natural light to your advantage.
  7. Enjoy outdoor activities before or after the meal. Switch off your screens and play an outdoor game or go for a walk!
  8. For dessert, indulge in fresh, seasonal fruit from your local farmer’s market.
  9. Did you use a cooler to chill your drinks? Use the melted ice to give your garden some hydration!
  10. Put dishes in the dishwasher following the meal—it’s been shown to be more energy- and water-efficient than washing by hand.2
