Alley Kat Brewery is Edmonton’s first bullfrogpowered craft brewery

Tuesday January 5, 2016

Edmonton—Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, announced that Alley Kat Brewery is choosing clean, pollution-free electricity, making it the first bullfrogpowered craft brewery in Edmonton. Alley Kat joins the growing number of Canadian organizations supporting the development of new renewable power generation across Canada with Bullfrog Power.

“Alley Kat is proud to be supporting clean, renewable energy with Bullfrog Power,” said Neil Herbst, Co-Owner of Alley Kat Brewery. “By bullfrogpowering our brewery, Alley Kat is greening its operations and doing our part to help the transition to a renewably powered future.”

Through the agreement, Bullfrog Power’s generators put clean, green electricity onto the grid to match the amount used by the Alley Kat brewery. Across Canada, Bullfrog’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.

“We are excited to welcome Alley Kat to the bullfrogpowered community,” said Anthony Santilli, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Bullfrog Power. “By choosing clean, pollution-free energy, Alley Kat is reducing its environmental impact and supporting the development of new renewable energy projects across Canada.”

In addition to choosing green energy with Bullfrog Power, Alley Kat’s sustainability initiatives include:

  • Using recycled glass bottles. The bottles are part of a brewers’ bottle pool and are reused up to 20 times before they are crushed and made into other products.
  • Capturing excess heat from the brewing process and reusing it to produce hot water for use in the brewery.
  • Recycling spent grain by sending it to a local farm where it is used as livestock feed.
  • Recycling excess plastics and cardboard.
