ISL Engineering and Land Services adds 100 per cent green electricity to sustainability plan with
Canadian engineering and land services firm bullfrogpowers® corporate offices in Alberta and British Columbia
Edmonton, August 23, 2012—Bullfrog Power, Canada’s 100 per cent green energy provider, is pleased to announce that ISL Engineering and Land Services (ISL)—a full-service consulting firm delivering planning and design solutions for transportation, water, land, and environmental projects—is bullfrogpowering all 11 of if its corporate offices across Alberta and British Columbia. By greening approximately 1,300 MWh of electricity annually, ISL is reducing its electricity-related emissions footprint and promoting sustainable practices within the engineering community.
“At ISL, we strive to inspire sustainable thinking among our staff and clients—and across our industry,” said Rodney Peacock, President and Chief Executive Officer of ISL Engineering and Land Services. “We are pleased to be working with Bullfrog Power to reduce our environmental footprint and to help show that simple, sustainable solutions are available to our customers and communities.”
Through the agreement, Bullfrog Power’s generators inject renewable electricity onto the regional grid to match the amount of power ISL’s corporate offices use. In British Columbia, Bullfrog sources 100 per cent wind power from the Bear Mountain Wind Park, while Bullfrog’s power in Alberta comes exclusively from local wind power facilities in the province. All generation facilities have been certified as low impact by Environment Canada under its EcoLogoM program. Bullfrog Power uses the collective demand of its customers to support the development of new renewable generation in Canada.
In addition to signing on for green electricity, ISL has engaged in a number of activities over the years to help reduce its environmental impact. ISL has partnered with The Natural Step to integrate sustainable practices into its culture, operations and professional services. The engineering firm has also brought together a team of 28 Sustainability Champions from all offices to develop and implement internal sustainability programs. These programs include Kick Carbon to the Curb to reduce the offices’ carbon footprint, Save a Tree to reduce paper use and encourage the use of FSC paper, Last One Out to decrease energy use, Compost the Most to divert waste from the landfill, and Green is the New Brown to build sustainability into all operations and procurement. ISL facilities and operations have achieved zero waste, are carbon neutral and also water neutral. In recognition of its environmental commitment, the engineering firm has been named one of Canada’s 30 most environmentally-conscious employers by Aon Hewitt for two years in a row.
“We’re proud to work with an organization that has so deeply embedded sustainability into its operations and corporate culture,” said Tom Heintzman, President, Bullfrog Power. “We applaud ISL for its environmental leadership and for engaging its employees, clients and industry in an important dialogue on environmental action.”
