Bullfrog Power® encourages Canadians to support renewable energy during WWF's Earth Hour

Canadians encouraged to let their support for clean energy shine on March 26

Share news from Bullfrog Power

Toronto, March 24, 2011 — This Earth Hour, Bullfrog Power, Canada's 100 per cent green energy provider, is promoting the switch to clean energy as an important step alongside conservation to help fight climate change. WWF, the organizer of the event, and Bullfrog Power share a commitment to increase awareness of the challenges with conventional forms of energy generation. Fossil fuel-based electricity generation, for example, is a leading source of carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse gas linked to climate change. By choosing clean energy, Canadians can reduce their environmental impact, support the development of renewable energy in Canada and help to create a cleaner future.

"Bullfrog is a proud sponsor of WWF's Earth Hour, which raises awareness around the importance of clean energy alternatives," said Tom Heintzman, President, Bullfrog Power. "Canadians are increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of their energy consumption and are looking for simple ways to take action on climate change within their homes and businesses."

Bullfrog Power provides renewable energy solutions that allow homes and businesses to reduce their environmental impact and help create a cleaner, healthier world. When a home or business signs up for green electricity or green natural gas, Bullfrog's generators inject 100 per cent clean, renewable energy onto the respective energy system to match the amount of conventional electricity or natural gas the customer uses. Bullfrog's green electricity comes exclusively from wind and hydro facilities that have been certified as low impact by Environment Canada under its EcoLogoM program instead of from polluting sources like coal, oil, natural gas and nuclear. A clean, renewable alternative to fossil-fuel based natural gas, Bullfrog's green natural gas is produced in Canada from biogas facilities that have met strict environmental criteria as defined by ICF International.

"Canada is one of the top 10 nations contributing to global climate change, but we don't have to be," says Josh Laughren, Director, Climate and Energy, WWF. "That's why we're focusing on clean energy during this year's Earth Hour—it's an easy way that Canadians can make a big difference."

In the spirit of Earth Hour, bullfrogpowered® customers are sharing with Canadians, through an article posted on Bullfrog's website and through the organization's Facebook wall, simple steps they take year-round—in addition to supporting renewable energy—to reduce their environmental impact.

"I recently changed the setting on my drier from timed drying to moisture sensing mode. I found I was overestimating the time it took to dry a load by more than 10 per cent," says Jen Silverthorn, a bullfrogpowered homeowner in Calgary. "To further our electricity savings, we also purchased an indoor clothes drying rack and refurbished the clothesline."
