Toronto, May 31, 2010 — Bullfrog Power, Canada’s 100 per cent green electricity provider, and the Retail Council of Canada (RCC) have teamed up to create the Sustainability in Action Zone at the 2010 STORE Conference, which runs from May 31 to June 1. The Zone brings together retail-focused leaders in sustainability to promote idea sharing on green initiatives and renewable practices.

“There is a tremendous opportunity for Canadian businesses to take a leadership role in advancing sustainability not only within the retail sector, but also in the communities in which they operate,” says Tom Heintzman, President, Bullfrog Power. “We are very proud to sponsor the Sustainability in Action Zone and to help showcase the green practices of some of Canada’s leading retailers.”

The annual two-day STORE Conference hosted by RCC is the largest of its kind in Canada and brings together more than 600 retail executives, management teams, suppliers and vendors to network with industry leaders from across the country. In addition to bullfrogpowering® the event with 100 per cent renewable electricity, RCC has implemented a number of sustainability-focused initiatives with the goal of ensuring that all of its events produce zero-waste. Electronic copies of handouts and printed materials are made available online and all badge inserts and badge holders are reusable and made of 100 per cent recyclable paper. Also, the 2010 STORE Conference is being held at the Toronto Congress Centre, which is partnering with Turtle Island Recycling to sort and recycle all leftover materials and ensure on-site recycling throughout the event.

“RCC is pleased to partner with Bullfrog Power on the Sustainability in Action Zone,” says Diane J. Brisebois, President and CEO, Retail Council of Canada. “Our hope is that this initiative will help promote further dialogue among Canadian retailers about sustainability best practices.”

The following bullfrogpowered businesses are participating in the Sustainability in Action Zone:

  • Walmart
  • LoyaltyOne
  • The Home Depot
  • LUSH
  • Steam Whistle Brewing
  • Davis Displays
  • Grassroots
  • WWF
