Calgary, January 25, 2010 — Bullfrog Power, Canada’s 100 per cent green electricity provider, announced today that 68 of Mac’s Convenience Stores in Alberta are now bullfrogpowered™ with 100 per cent locally-produced wind power. The bullfrogpowered Mac’s stores include 33 in Calgary, 18 in Edmonton and 17 in other communities across Alberta. Bullfrog Power will green approximately 11,458 MWh annually, reducing the stores’ collective electricity-related carbon dioxide emissions footprint by 9,166.4 tonnes each year.

“With its extensive consumer reach, the retail sector has a critical role to play in creating a sustainable future for Canada,” said Theresa Howland, Vice President, Western Region, Bullfrog Power. “By committing to green power with Bullfrog, Mac’s, a Canadian retail icon, is taking a leadership role in helping Canada transition to a cleaner energy future.”

“We are proud to be a bullfrogpowered organization and to be addressing the emissions that our business units produce,” said Kelly McGuire, Senior Director of Operations, Western Division, Mac’s Convenience Stores. “Signing on for green electricity was one action we could take to reduce our environmental footprint and support the generation of clean, renewable electricity in Canada.”

Bullfrog’s electricity in Alberta comes exclusively from wind facilities located in the province that have been certified as low impact by Environment Canada under its EcoLogoM program—instead of from polluting sources like coal, oil, natural gas and nuclear. When homes and businesses sign on for Bullfrog Power, Bullfrog's generators inject renewable electricity onto the regional grid to match the amount of power the home or business uses.
