The Lighthouse Media Group signs on for 100 per cent green electricity with Bullfrog Power®
Family-owned business greens pre-press and printing operations with renewable energy
Bridgewater, August 17, 2010 — The Lighthouse Media Group, located in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, is supporting the town’s sustainability goals and taking action on climate change by bullfrogpowering® its pre-press and printing facilities with 100 per cent clean, renewable electricity. A founding member of the Bridgewater Sustainability Partnership, Lighthouse Media Group is one of several businesses in the town to commit to reducing its environmental footprint.
"When we joined the Bridgewater Sustainability Partnership program in 2008, one of our commitments was to support the sustainable growth of this community through education and environmental action," says Lynn Hennigar, President, Lighthouse Media Group. "As the town’s community newspaper, we believe in leading by example and signing on with Bullfrog Power sends a strong message to our readers about the importance of supporting renewable energy."
Through the agreement, Bullfrog’s Maritime generators inject renewable electricity into the regional grid to match the amount of power the Lighthouse Media Group uses at its pre-press and printing facilities. In the Maritime provinces, Bullfrog sources from wind farms and low-impact hydro facilities in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. Bullfrog Power launched in the Maritimes in the fall of 2009 and provides all homes and businesses in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island with a renewable electricity choice. The organization’s goal is to advance the development of wind power throughout the Maritimes.
Choosing Bullfrog Power complements the family-owned business’ existing environmental programs. The company relies on geothermal technology for its heating and cooling, recycles all paper and print-related materials, and implemented an internal energy conservation campaign to create awareness about ways employees can make their workplace more sustainable.
"By choosing green electricity, the Lighthouse Media Group is setting a strong example for other Maritime businesses to follow," said Holly Bond, Director, Eastern Region, Bullfrog Power. "Not only is the company reducing its environmental impact, it is demonstrating that there are practical ways to support renewable energy in Canada."
