Sobeys Symphony Under the Sky
Bullfrog Power™ partners with Edmonton Symphony Orchestra
to source green power for 2008 outdoor festival
Calgary, August 25, 2008 — Bullfrog Power, a leading Canadian provider of
100 per cent green electricity, today announced that the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (ESO) is bullfrogpowering the fourteenth annual Sobeys Symphony Under the Sky with emissions-free electricity. The ESO will lower the electricity-related emissions footprint of the festival with Alberta-made wind power. The festival runs from August 29 to September 1, 2008, at Hawrelak Park.
“Bullfrogpowering this concert is a natural fit for us,” said Annemarie Petrov, ESO Managing Director. “Our Sobeys Symphony Under the Sky concerts are held in a stunning outdoor setting, right in Edmonton's massive green belt — the North Saskatchewan River valley. Every year, we have been making changes to our festival to reduce our carbon footprint in the park. This partnership with Bullfrog Power is a big jump in the right direction.”
“By choosing to use Bullfrog Power, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra is helping to raise awareness among Albertans about their option to purchase green power for their homes and businesses,” said Theresa Howland, Vice President, Western Region, Bullfrog Power. “Because of our partnership with the ESO, Edmontonians have the opportunity to enjoy the symphony and the environment in one setting.”
Bullfrog Power is the only 100 per cent electricity provider in Alberta. Providing green power for this event will not require any special equipment or wiring. Bullfrog Power will simply inject clean, emissions-free EcoLogoM-certified electricity onto the Alberta electricity grid to match the amount of power used by the event, just as it does for thousands of homes and hundreds of organizations in Alberta and Ontario. In Alberta, Bullfrog sources its 100 per cent made-in-Alberta wind power from wind farms near Pincher Creek.
The ESO’s annual venture into the scenic river valley provides Edmonton with its only outdoor festival of orchestral music. Charismatic Conductor Robert Bernhardt returns for his third year to conduct the annual festival.
