Bullfrog Power now available to all Ontarians —
including condo and apartment residents
Now everyone — even unmetered homes — can green
their electricity with Bullfrog
Toronto, April 25, 2008 — Bullfrog Power, a leading Canadian provider of 100
per cent green electricity, today announced the expansion of its service to all Ontarians. Bullfrog Power provides organizations and residential consumers with a convenient way to help fight climate change by supporting locally generated clean, renewable power. In Ontario, all of Bullfrog’s green power is sourced from EcoLogoM-certified wind and low-impact water power generators.
With the launch of Bullfrog’s newest green offering, any residence can green their power — even condominiums and apartments that are not separately metered. Now customers who are not billed directly by their local utility (such as many condo dwellers who are billed through a third party), or who never receive an electricity bill at all (such as many apartment tenants) can still make the choice to support 100 per cent green power. The new offering is also ideal for customers who are locked into long-term contracts with other electricity retailers or for customers residing in utility areas previously not serviced by Bullfrog Power.
With the new service, these customers continue to pay their base electricity costs through their existing payment channel, and receive a separate bill priced at 3.5 cents per kWh from Bullfrog for the greening of their electricity. Bullfrog then ensures that EcoLogoM-certified green power is injected onto the Ontario electricity grid to match the amount of power the customer’s home uses. And because customers continue drawing power from the grid in the same way, there is no change in service reliability. To ensure that as much green power has been injected onto the provincial grid as customers use, Bullfrog is voluntarily audited by Deloitte on an annual basis. This audit is published annually on the Bullfrog Power web site at www.bullfrogpower.com/about/audit_residential.pdf.
“Supporting 100 per cent green power generated right here in Ontario is a significant way for homeowners to reduce their environmental impact and help address climate change and air pollution,” said Tom Heintzman, President, Bullfrog
Power. “We are delighted to be able to extend our services to provide all Ontarians, including renters and condominium owners, with the option to support clean, emissions-free power to meet their electricity needs.”
In a separate announcement, Bullfrog Power also announced today a new partnership with TAS DesignBuild, a leading innovator in the condominium industry, through which the condominium developer will bullfrogpower its two latest developments, M5V Condominiums and their soon-to-be announced Giraffe Condominiums, both located in Toronto.
“We are delighted to partner with TAS DesignBuild in conjunction with our announcement of the availability of our green power offering to condominium and apartment dwellers,” said Jo Coombe, VP Marketing, Bullfrog Power. “By committing to purchase green power on behalf of their condo owners for the first year, TAS is showing a significant commitment to raising awareness among other developers and individual homeowners about their option to purchase green power and reduce their electricity-related emissions footprint.”
“We hope that our peers will follow our lead and show their support for greening our industry,” said Mazyar Mortazavi, Principal, TAS DesignBuild. “We’re proud to be the first developer in Canada to bullfrogpower residential units on behalf of condominium owners.”
