50 Alberta Companies Make the
Leap to Green with Bullfrog Power™
First publication of the Alberta bullfrogpowered™
Green Index
celebrates corporate environmental leaders
Calgary, December 5, 2007 — Bullfrog Power™, a leading Canadian provider of 100 per cent green electricity, is pleased to announce today that since its Alberta launch in June 2007, 50 Alberta companies have already chosen to go green with its made-in-Alberta wind power.
By making the choice for 100 per cent green electricity from Bullfrog Power, these Alberta organizations are taking tangible action to address climate change and are helping to support the development of clean, renewable wind power in Alberta. Bullfrog Power ensures that the amount of power consumed by its residential and commercial customers is injected onto the Alberta electricity grid from clean, Alberta wind power.
Electricity generation is the largest industrial source of greenhouse gas emissions in Alberta, producing even more emissions than oil sands and gas plants.1
Alberta-based organizations that have "bullfrogpowered™" some or all of their operations and facilities include Flexahopper Plastics Inc., Rocky Mountain Soap Company, Allwest Commercial Furnishings, Homes by Avi, Wal-Mart, Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut, BMO, RBC, Mountain Equipment Co-op, Good Earth Coffeehouse and Bakery, Red Bloom Salon, Climate Change Central, Bon Ton Bakery, Cotton Ginny, lululemon athletica and dozens of others. A full list is found on the attached document, in full-page ads in today’s Edmonton Journal and Calgary Herald, and at www.bullfrogpower.com.
"These are our founding customers in Alberta and they demonstrate the willingness of Albertans to reduce their environmental impact and help address climate change," says Theresa Howland, Vice President, Western Region, Bullfrog Power. "Our 100 per cent green power choice gives almost all Albertans — whether business or residential customers — a practical, convenient means to do their part for the environment."
Flexahopper Plastics, a molding and plastics manufacturer, recently signed on as part of its plan to operate a sustainable, community-focused business. "As an Alberta-based company operating in an international marketplace, Flexahopper takes seriously our responsibility to help reduce the global environmental impact of our industry," said Bill Spencely, President and CEO, Flexahopper Plastics. "Purchasing Alberta-generated green power from Bullfrog, for our global headquarters in Lethbridge, is an excellent way for us to participate in a local solution that addresses a global problem."
Bullfrog Power is the only green power choice currently available to virtually all Albertans without switching their electricity provider or retailer. In Alberta, Bullfrog Power exclusively sources from 100 per cent made-in-Alberta wind power that is certified under the federal government’s Environmental ChoiceM Program EcoLogoM standard.
Alberta businesses that choose to become bullfrogpowered pay a modest premium of 2 cents per kWh. Customers do not need any special setup or wiring to go green.
To serve the needs of its growing customer base, Bullfrog Power sources all of its power from two wind turbines newly commissioned at the Oldman River wind farm near Pincher Creek by Bullfrog supplier, Alberta Wind Energy Corporation.
